William who?

OK, clicking over to Hugo Weaving's page from the IMDB entry on The Magic Pudding (heh heh), I see his character in V for Vendetta is listed as "V/William Rookwood." Eh? Who the hell is that? I read the comic and I don't know. That means V is definitely a guy, then? That's dumb.
