My mum found a no-kill shelter that'll take Bun-Bun. So that's good. I guess she'll go over there today.

I've given the apartment people all the stuff they need now except when I come to get my keys, they need to know my new PG&E account number and stuff and they need my vet to fill out a form confirming that Snape's had her shots. I can move in on the 29th. Woohoo!

There's a 24 Hour Fitness down the road so I'll start going to the 6:00AM cycling classes three days a week. That'll take care of my exercise needs for now. When I get more settled in, I can make more of a plan but it'll be easier keeping it simple like that for now. It's occurred to me that if I'm going to do the Naked Snape sequel (which will involve attempting to break Lucius out of jail) I'll need to get it done before book 6 comes out because he'll probably break himself out by then. So that's the next item on the agenda. I'm going to set aside an hour every evening to work on it. I have it all written and I drew a few panels but they suck so I'm going to start over. It's cool because I would've spent that hour driving, living in Davis, so I'll end up having the same amount of time. And two days a week, I can do yoga in the morning or have a lie in. I won't have to get up for work till 8:30! Woooo!

ETA: man, the shelter might be no good. It's supposed to be in Manteca. They don't have an address on their website and they told my mum they'd meet her at a location an hour away from Manteca to get the rabbit. That sets off warning bells. She called me asking for advice; she was thinking of e-mailing PETA to ask if they knew anything about this shelter. I suggested doing that but also telling the shelter people that she wants to come and see the place. It's too bad it's so far away. If they say she can come and see it, it'd be a good idea to come without Bun-Bun to check it out but that's a long trip to make twice. I've e-mailed a group on campus at UCD that might take it but I haven't gotten a reply yet.

Dang, I'm going to have to figure out my top 10 chapters to illustrate for [livejournal.com profile] hp_art_project. I need to skim the books again. I'm tempted to go for one of the ones involving occlumency lessons but I'm not great with drawing backgrounds and Snape's office would require a nice background. Maybe I'll pick something with Lupin. A while back, I had a good concept for a pic of the part with Snape, Karkaroff, Harry and Ron outside the Yule Ball. Maybe that'll be on my list.

Not sure if I'm cut out for this but I asked [livejournal.com profile] scarah2 for a rant so I have to post it. Bear in mind that I can't rant about something I don't know about (therefore Buffy/Spike is out, for example, since I've seen maybe 2 episodes of BtVS). Unless you want me to rant about the fact that I don't know about it.

1. Comment with any subject that you would like me to rant on, with possible swearing involved. Any subject - but notice you might want me to rant *against* the subject and OMG I rant *for* it. So. Also, I swear I won't post 47865387453 separate monster-rants. They'll be rantlets unless someone manages to hit a button. :D

2. Watch my journal for your rant.

3. Post this in your own journal, so that you may rant for others.

Vampire!Snape. Ahh, good one. OK. First of all, as usual, JKR carefully phrases the answer so it's not a definitive 'yes' or 'no.' The question was also unfortunately worded such that it left room for ambiguity. Here's the actual quote:
Megan: Is there a link between Snape and vampires?
JK Rowling replies -> Erm... I don't think so.

But what's meant by a link? One could argue that Hagrid had no "links" with giants during the 40-odd years between his mother leaving and his meeting Mme. Maxime, right? Snape could be related to vampires himself but refuse to have anything to do with his relatives and could therefore be said not to have any links with vampires at the present time.

...this is insufficiently ranty. It's more like quibbling than actually ranting. I'll have another go: JKR gives us all these hints that Snape's got something to do with vampires. They're mentioned but no vampire characters actually appear. There are the bat comparisons, the prowling around the castle at night, the interest in the Dark Arts, the fact that he looks EXACTLY like how everyone pictures vampires. And then, just as with Mark Evans, she's all "oh, sorry, you got 'vampire' from that?" Prior to OotP, I thought JKR wouldn't jerk her audience around like that. Prior to hearing that Mark Evans is nobody, I thought she'd give us clues and the always-mentioned red herrings but that she wouldn't lead us off in entirely the wrong direction like that. I used to believe in something, man.

Vampires are awesome. There's so much she could do with it: how vampires and werewolves are natural enemies, how Snape's got his own dark (or Dark) secret that could jeopardize his job, perhaps even his freedom, how there's another group of sentient beings that are persecuted. But she's all "nope, he's just a boring old human. I'm not even going to let him teach DADA because I pathologically hate him." The Occlumency bit made him more sympathetic and I liked how he was still a bastard at the end of OotP but I wonder whether the point of that was to show that he's still himself or to remind us that we're not supposed to like him.

Even that asshole Sirius gets to turn into a dog, at least.
