Why, [livejournal.com profile] lab_gripes, why? Man, you used to be cool. First [livejournal.com profile] kissmyass_cosmo became overrun with people who think not shaving your legs makes you dirty and menstrual blood is unclean and now this. Can we get back to whining about our jobs now instead of wanking over use of the f-word? Please?

(Incidentally, I agree with 66sect and okapi_j but they could stop baiting the uptight people already.)

I liked it. I don’t get why the spoilery review was so bad. There were things the reviewer claimed didn’t make sense that obviously did. Like Ford with all the beers: he didn’t just have them for no reason, they were for himself and Arthur. Complaining about that just proves that the reviewer was determined to find fault no matter what. I admit, it wasn’t as good as the books - but what movie possibly could be? - and it’s been too long since I’ve seen the TV shows for me to compare with those but overall, I liked it.

My experience was marred only slightly by the presence of a gaggle of teenage male mental defectives sitting immediately behind me who thought it was clever to read aloud words that appeared on the screen, say lines we’d all heard in the trailers a second before the characters said them and say “uh, boom?” during what would otherwise have been the dramatic pause right before the Earth blows up. I’m amazed they didn’t give away the ending. It’s like they were desperate posers, wanting to sound like nerds but not smart enough to be actual nerds.

Anyway. I liked Marvin. My mum saw the trailer and didn’t like the way he looked but I thought he was cute. I actually felt sorry for him, the way he hung his oversized head. I found him more appealing than in the original TV series but, as I said, it’s been years since I’ve seen that. He would have to look a good deal less sleek and shiny in future films but I don’t think they’ll be making them.
