May. 5th, 2005 12:47 pmTexas Lawmakers OK Cheerleading Ban
Not a total ban, as the typically misleading headline suggests, but a ban on sexually provocative cheerleading routines. Which is already covered under a public lewdness law, according to the ACLU. This part got me:
Edwards argued bawdy performances are a distraction for students resulting in pregnancies, dropouts and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.
What the hell kind of routines were they doing that would result in pregnancy?!
Seriously, though, yeah, let's once again put all the blame on women and girls for unwanted pregnancy and STDs. Teenage males aren't promiscuous or irresponsible about condoms, no, it's those awful, saucy cheerleaders tempting them into debauchery and making all those older male legislators get all sweaty and think bad, naughty thoughts. Destroy them!
