why?

I have to stop reading the news. It just keeps getting worse. I don't understand. I don't see what the government stands to gain by ignoring the refugees. At least their motives for the war made sense, even if they were wrong but this is just insane. Would it really cost that much to send the busses back? Would it really have been that dangerous for them to bring the supplies down to people instead of throwing them off a bridge? Would it damage our image that much to allow our allies to help us?
