OK, I was fiddling with a new database and I made all these different groups for security. Then after I closed the database and later opened it again, it had lost all the new groups I'd created and only had Users and Admins. So maybe I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing and closed the window instead of clicking OK. It did save the new user I'd created in the Admins group. That's not the problem.

The problem is this: ever since then, Access has been asking me for a username and password to open anything, whether it's supposed to be secured or not. It won't even let me create a brand new blank database without first entering a username and password. I closed Access and turned off the computer, turned it back on, opened Access and tried to make a new database and it still asked for a username and password. I can get in as the new Admin user but I want to be able to create a fresh database from scratch without any security settings.

I have an otherwise great Access book (MS Access 2002 Inside and Out by Helen Feddema) but Security is in an Appendix and it doesn't say anything about the situation I'm in.

I'll try Microsoft's site but I don't think I've ever gotten anywhere with that before.

Help!

ETA um... it just fixed itself. I didn't do anything. That's screwed up. I think I know what happened: I tried to set the user and group permissions without having run the User Level Security wizard. And I was trying to create the new databases in the same folder as an existing database that had a Security.mdw file. You'd think it would be possible to have two databases in the same folder and one's secured and the other isn't but whatever.

Wait... ARRGH! It hasn't fixed itself, it just looked like it had! I can open the database without logging in but it says the one user, Admin, doesn't have access to anything, including the thing I would have to change to give myself access to anything.

OK, plan B: create a blank database and import all the tables and stuff into it.

E a second time TA Nope, now it's back to demanding a password for everything. I don't know what the hell's happened. I'm going to fucking reinstall Access.
