People are claiming that Brokeback Mountain is "about love" and the characters aren't necessarily gay.
OK, you know what the problem with that is? When you say a man is "gay" it does not mean "HAS ANAL SEX WITH OTHER MEN" (I assume the above mentioned people are ignoring the fact that the two male characters do have anal sex with each other). Orientation is not just about sex, it's about love, just like this movie. To claim the characters aren't gay is a slap in the face to everyone who's waited all this time for a big, mainstream romantic movie about a gay couple.
Men who fall in love with each other and never fall in love with women = GAY! Stop making excuses! Don't say "not that there's anything wrong with that" and then act like there is something wrong with being gay and that somehow it's better if two straight men feel romantic love for each other.
Jake Gyllenhaal is quoted as saying: "The relationship between these two characters was one of a deep friendship. They're soul mates. And it doesn't really matter whether they consummate it or not." EXCEPT THEY DO CONSUMMATE IT! And that DOES matter! It matters because of neocon shitheads who go around claiming that the American people will never accept a movie which includes gay sex because it's wrong. Not if we never get to see a movie with gay sex because any sex between members of the same gender is written off as something exceptional and something other than what it is!
Gaaarh!
