You know what I'd like to see made into a movie but it'll never happen? The Diamond Age. Although it's been a long time since I read Snow Crash so maybe I don't appreciate that as much as it deserves. It's just that that's in the near future and, as kickass as it is, its universe isn't as awe-inspiring as that of The Diamond Age.
They'd have to change the ending slightly, though. That almost ruined the book for me. There are other ways she could be infected with the nanobots, dammit! Don't build her up to be an awesome character and then pointlessly make her suffer! That turns characters into Mary Sues!
I think they should make The Diamond Age into a miniseries. So it can be 6 hours long. And Alan Rickman should be John Hackworth. He's getting slightly old for it now but the age discrepancy wouldn't be as great as it is in Harry Potter so it'll work.
