the question for today
Nov. 28th, 2006 11:53 amThe question for today is: was Snape in the Slug Club?
I was thinking about it this morning. I don't think it's in the book anywhere. Slughorn knew Snape because he was Snape's Head of House but my guess is he wasn't one of Sluggy's favorites. Surely Slughorn would've known his dad was a Muggle and his mum wasn't famous (the only reference to her that Hermione managed to dig up was that she was in the Hogwatrs Gobstones club). We don't know how Snape did in subjects other than Potions and even there we don't know whether Snape or Lily was the best Potions student in their year. If I were going to write an epic fanfic containing all the details of Snape's past, Slughorn's lack of support would've been a big factor pushing young Snape to join the Death Eaters. I picture Slughorn telling Snape in his career counseling session that working in an apothecary shop is perfectly respectable and you have to have connections to get an apprenticeship with the Guild and besides, Snape has to work so hard at Potions, he's not a natural like that Lily Evans, etc. And Snape just has to sit there seething and then stalks out muttering "I'll show them, I'll show them ALL!"
I'm at my parents' house and my mum's enormous cat is sitting on me and it's hard to type.
