If parents put a teenager in the position of her not being able to talk to them about birth control, something is very wrong. Her right to control her own reproduction outweighs their right to... what? I don't even really know how this has anything to do with the parents' rights. What rights are they supposed to have here? Having ownership over her body, I guess. The underlying idea with parental notification is that girls and women are incapable of having agency; the assumption is if the girl's parents(father) don't have control over her then the evil, money-grubbing abortion doctors will.

At least this isn't something inane about ghosts like the usual Writer's Block questions.

I went to hulu.com to watch some SNL clips and I saw an ad for this reality show If I Can Dream. There's somebody on the show named Giglianne.

Is that a bastardization of my name? I think it is.



...OK, it's not quite pronounced the same: I thought it was jee-lee-ann (whereas mine is jill-ee-ann); it's actually jee-glee-annie. But still. I call shenanigans.

It's almost as bad as that time on Family Guy when Brian's dumbass girlfriend was named Gillian (or Jillian? I don't think we saw it written).

got my yellow belt!

I had my test tonight and I got my high yellow belt! (There's a low and a high of each belt color.) I thought I was going to test last week but the scheduling didn't work out. Actually the head instructor wasn't there tonight - I think he has a respiratory thing, he was losing his voice last week - but the assistant instructor decided I could test with her. That made it easier, I wasn't as nervous as last time because she's not quite so demanding.

Since I was supposed to test last week, they already had me start learning the low orange techniques. So I know four of those. I think there's a new kata to learn too. The techniques all have crazy names. I just learned Rising Knee, Three Hands of China, Crashing Daggers, and... I can't remember the name of the fourth one. Three Hands of China involves punching your attacker so hard they poop their pants :D Oh, I remember the fourth one, it's just Two-Hand Wrist Grab. Some of the names aren't as fun as others.

So I had my private lesson, then group class, then testing; about 2 hours total. Woo! Time for sleepy now.
