gmonkey42Just like in 2004, when allegedly progressive people drove me nuts by saying they couldn't vote for Kerry because he was too similar to Bush (WTF), now we've got Democrats trying to convince other Democrats not to vote for Obama (or Clinton), because Clinton (or Obama) is their first choice. ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)

I actually voted for Obama in the California primary because I thought he'd do a better job for women's rights than Clinton would. It was a tough call, I think either of them would do an great job, it's just that I thought Obama would do a slightly better job. We Democrats started this election season rejoicing over having the "burden" of having to choose between three excellent candidates. Now we're throwing a hissy fit if our first choice doesn't get the nomination? Is it really worth another four years of a neocon Executive branch, just to be able to go around saying you stuck with your conscience and refused to vote for a Democrat who made a thoughtless remark? Is it worth four more years of war, economic ruin, environmental devastation, federal support of ultraconservative Christianity, and theft of our civil rights, just to be able to say "at least I didn't vote for Obama [or Clinton]"? The Republicans don't have this problem: a lot of them liked other candidates better than McCain but you can be damn sure they'll see the sense in voting for McCain in order to prevent a Democrat from winning. Why is it so hard for (some) Democrats to use the same simple strategy?
