donut update

As I'd feared, the donuts turned out cake-like and a little heavy. I don't know how they do the other kind: I had to add enough flour that the dough would stick together. Maybe next time, I won't attempt to roll out the dough, I'll just grab a chunk while it's still in the sticky phase and toss it in the fryer. I tried to rig up a thing with a straw and a plastic baggie to inject the chocolate goo into the middles, having hollowed them out a little with a knife, but it didn't work and I ended up having to cut them in half and blob the chocolate in. The chocolate coating seemed to work fine.
They're in the fridge so the coating can set. I predict that they'll taste pretty good but the texture will leave something to be desired and they'll be a little dense, even for cake donuts.
I recorded what I did, lab-notebook-style, so I can see what to change next time. Cooking for Nerds.
