I'm actually at work, not at home playing Sims 2.

I need more memory. I have 256 MB which is the minimum recommended and it's really slow; it always spends a long time on the loading screens. I spent the first few hours playing with the Body Shop thing or whatever it's called. I made myself first and it pretty much looks like me except my hair doesn't fall down into my eyes in real life. Then I made a Snape that came off looking too little like Snape and too much like Trent Reznor so maybe I'll have another go later. Then I made a Lupin who's ridiculously adorable and also has hair in his eyes because they don't have shaggy but slightly shorter hair styles for men either. When I saw the pirate outfits, I couldn't resist so Lupin has a pirate outfit. Snape is dressed as Neo. I'm wearing jeans and a sleveless shirt, very similar to the outfit I had in Sims 1. Snape and Lupin are friends. I haven't moved myself into the neighborhood yet. I built Snape's house myself and it's pretty modest. I gave Lupin the Tudor house that comes with the game. He has $88 and no shower or bed. I got him a fridge and there was a stove that came with the house and the first thing he did was burn some toast in it. So maybe I'll get rid of the stove for now and get him a couch to sleep on.

I want to play with the building tool more but it takes so long to load each wall pattern and everything. Tonight, I'll try shutting off everything that isn't essential, like the firewall and virus scan (they really aren't; my computer isn't connected to anything else unless I go online. I actually have to unplug the cable because the computer shares the jack with the phone). And I ran AdAware last night before I started playing. Basically, I need more memory. There are an awful lot of tasks that run in the background, though, so shutting them off should help.

Meanwhile, I have to do various errands today and go to a job fair in SF tomorrow. I've started thinking 'to hell with it, I'll apply to all kinds of jobs, they don't have to be biotech.' I know I'd get bored working for a pharmaceutical company and that's where all the biotech openings are. I just have no interest in that. Now, pharmacogenetics would be awesome but they don't exactly have entry level positions there. Maybe I'll look into taking the exam for MCSE and other certification things like that. It can't be too hard, some of the idiots I went to night school with at MTI College had passed it.

I figure I can get by with a somewhat lower salary. My lease ends in August and I can move to a cheaper place.
