I spent the entire weekend playing Sims 2
Apr. 25th, 2005 10:03 amBy Sunday, I was starting to feel like a Sim. Sim!Snape was eating pancakes and they looked good so I made myself pancakes. Then I had spaghetti for dinner. Sim!Harry and Sim!Ginny are engaged. I don't know why I do these things. There's also a Hermione. The original Snape and Lupin live in another neighborhood (Veronaville). These others, including the new Snape (who looks more like a cross between Trent Reznor and Marilyn Manson but I'm getting closer) lives in this new neighborhood I made, called Ocean Beach. It was one of the ready-made empty neighborhoods (the one that looks like an island). I don't have Sim City 4 so I can't make my own custom neighborhoods.
I like watching their TV. I started ignoring the people and just watching TV. I also like watching them make food. I like all the little ingredients. Snape's up to level 7 of cooking. I'm guessing he'll learn how to make steak at level 8, 9 or 10. And another desert, possibly chocolate mousse. Don't tell me, I want to be surprised. Snape keeps falling on his head when he tries to do yoga. I wonder if they can actually break their necks doing that. It looks dangerous.
I had a hell of a time trying to kill Sims. They're not as flammable as before. And I think the crib is fire-proof. I wanted a baby ghost but I had to settle for a child ghost. Snape and Hermione both have the Knowledge aspiration so I have to make some ghosts, right? I made a haunted house with an old caretaker guy named Retch Jarvis. So they can visit him to see their ghosts. But then it was hard to get them to see the ghosts too. Retch tried to see one and I had him running all over the yard. Finally, she appeared to him; when they're transparent, I guess I can see them but the Sims can't. So you have to wait till the ghost decides to scare them. Nobody's been abducted by aliens yet either. It seemed to happen pretty often in Sims 1. It's cool how the ghosts are customized now: the one who drowned is blue and leaves puddles everywhere and the one who died in a fire is red. I haven't seen her do anything yet. There's a foundation on that house and nothing flammable on the ground floor so maybe she sets things on fire. Now I'll have to find out all the different ways to kill them to see what kind of ghosts I get. I tried to electrocute Snape, after saving the game, because the oportunity presented itself when his TV broke but he just fixed it without incident. He had zero mechanical skills. I was disappointed. I'd intended to quit without saving after he was dead but I wanted to see what would happen.
Next on the agenda: make skins and make a Sims 2 page on my site. The Neo skin's mesh has boots and a low collar but I made a slightly better Snape outfit, with plain, knee-high boots. I don't know how to get at the neck, though. And I don't get what the third image file is for, the one that's all greyscale. The filename says something about texture. Until I figure it out better, all I'll be able to do is modify colors and patterns on existing clothes. Oh well, that's not too bad.
ETA: I got the new memory and video card all sorted out. My dad didn't do anything with the CD or DVD drives and they were there when he turned it back on. So something must have been jostled loose and jostled back into place. Dangit. I'm always afraid of breaking things if something goes wrong the first time so I don't want to attempt a second try. My dad said I could've done it myself too. Not that he minded doing it. But he knows it bugs me that the problem would've gone away by itself anyway.
