It came to me in a dream: a chocolate donut, covered in sort of a hard chocolate shell, with chocolate cream inside. It is the ultimate chocolate donut. I think I'll attempt to make it. I don't know how they get them all airy and fluffy, though; it would be easy enough to make cake-like donuts but I don't know how they make the standard variety. But I have a deep fryer and the weekend off and an internet connection so I can probably find donut recipes.

It was weird, I dreamed I was in a donut shop and they had tons of different kinds of donuts and this was one of them. The donut store guy (he even had one of those paper hats) gave me a free sample of this chocolatey one. And it was filled with gooey chocolate and it was good.

P.S. Don't steal my idea! My unconscious thought of it first! Unless there are already chocolate-covered, chocolatey-filled donuts and I just don't know about it. That would suck. Ahh, but mine will have sprinkles. And chocolate chips. And be served on a bed of chocolate ice cream on a table made of chocolate. Or not.

For that MSPAINT interests meme.

Snape loves his poo-flinging monkey. James and Sirius don't like it so much. :D

As I'd feared, the donuts turned out cake-like and a little heavy. I don't know how they do the other kind: I had to add enough flour that the dough would stick together. Maybe next time, I won't attempt to roll out the dough, I'll just grab a chunk while it's still in the sticky phase and toss it in the fryer. I tried to rig up a thing with a straw and a plastic baggie to inject the chocolate goo into the middles, having hollowed them out a little with a knife, but it didn't work and I ended up having to cut them in half and blob the chocolate in. The chocolate coating seemed to work fine.

They're in the fridge so the coating can set. I predict that they'll taste pretty good but the texture will leave something to be desired and they'll be a little dense, even for cake donuts.

I recorded what I did, lab-notebook-style, so I can see what to change next time. Cooking for Nerds.
