something funny

I went to an aikido class this morning and I got a ride home with my boss, J. and he was giving another student (B.) a ride too. I learned today that the attacker (the one who gets thrown) is called what sounded like "uke." So I asked the guys about it in the car - they're both brown belts - and they said yes, it's uke and it means 'receiver.' I said I'd heard the word in a very different context... They said "what's that?" So I had to tell them about slash. I forget that not everybody's an internet geek. At least they knew what fanfiction was and everything. B. just said how that made sense, given its literal meaning. That's cool.

And I've forgotten what the person who defends/throws is called because it has nothing to do with gay smut.
