Mar. 8th, 2006 10:05 am1. Yaaaay, Snape scene! But why don't the teachers have dress robes? McGonagall didn't even have her holly wreath on her hat, if I remember correctly. They blew the costume budget on that CGI dragon, didn't they?
That's something that's bugged me a little about the whole series: it makes sense for the kids to have the same outfit every day for school because they have uniforms. But the teachers wear their own clothes. Why do Snape, McGonagall and Dumbledore all have only one outfit? Would it kill the costume people to have a little variation? Yeah, all of Snape's robes are black (except the green ones he wore to that one Quidditch match!) but I have a lot of black shirts and pants and that doesn't mean they're all identical.
2. And more about the Snape scene: he seemed quite, um, eager to fling those carriage doors open and catch students in the act, didn't he? I'm not sure how one would go about making it look more like Snape just relished taking House points from them and less like he wanted to run over and see them making out. Maybe if they students had looked all fumbling and embarrassed and ran off instead of just climbing out of the carriage like Snape's the chauffer opening the door for them. That would've helped. Awesome how Harry was peering in the window of the carriage before. And he didn't think he and Snape had anything in common.
3. OK, the Weird Sisters? Lame. Lame, lame lame. It was one of those moments where it's a movie you otherwise like but one scene is just so lame that it's embarrassing to watch it. I fast-forwarded through most of it but I did catch some of the music. Horrible, bland and so very, very generic. They have better rock music in the Goofy movies. Very, very glad they cut it from the actual movie.
4. The guy who plays Cedric is cool. Now I wanna see him in more movies.
5. There's a whole featurette about Ralph Finnes! And Jason Isaacs says a bit about the graveyard scene and working with Ralph! And Jason is in-costume, including the cane! That rules. I honestly thought that was practical makeup with the nose; the CGI was brilliantly done. And the costume was cool. That's the mark of truly excellent fimmaking, when you don't even think about the costume or effects while you're watching the movie and it only occurs to you later to wonder how they made it look like that.
As usual, no interview with Alan. They'd better have one for the 6th movie, Snape has so much to do in that one. I liked the Meet the Champions bit but why do they never have Meet the Teachers? (Or just Meet Snape, that'd suit me.)
