Awesome! It's only for women 18 and over, minors still have to have a doctor's note, but it's a huge step forward. I'm very surprised, I didn't think the FDA would budge on that one.
I read the article on AOL. Here's an odd couple of paragraphs from the end of the article:
But opponent Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America, said Plan B's wider availability could give women a false sense of security, since it isn't as effective as regular birth control. Wright also worries that adult men who have sex with minor girls could force the pills upon them.
"Statutory rape is a very serious problem. This decision is going to allow statutory rapists to rely on this drug to cover up their abuse," Wright said.
What the fuck? Like pregnancy is the only way a rapist could get caught? Even if it were, CONDOMS would also be a convenient way to avoid that. Which I suppose isn't a great counter-argument because I'm sure Concerned Conservative-Assholes-Who-Happen-to-Be-Female for America are against condoms too. Because God wants sex to either result in good Christian babies or kill you, dammit. Anyway, I have a huge problem with "statutory rape" when we're talking about a couple that consists of an 18-year-old and a 17-year-old. That's hugely different from an adult abusing a child.
