gmonkey42I've finished my other prop: Magical Me! Plus you can see a preview of my costume in the cover photo.
And it's a box! I'll keep my stuff in it so I don't have to carry a not-very-in-character bag. On the other hand, if any of the canon males would carry a man-purse, it'd be Gilderoy (and possibly Draco) but I think that would have been a bit of a stretch. Plus the book was way more fun to make than a bag.
I did that lettering by hand, man. BY HAND. Well, I printed the text from Photoshop, cut it out with an Exacto knife to make a stencil, used the stencil to make a rough guideline for the text on the book in pencil then finished it with brush-on gold leaf and a liquid gold pen. I also used Photoshop to make sheets with the lines so it looks like pages on the sides.
You can't really see it but my hat has a peacock feather coming out from behind the medallion thing. And you really really can't see it but it's recursive Gilderoys: I'm autographing a picture (and I took the time to paste my head onto Ken Brannagh's body) of Gilderoy, who's standing in front of a picture of Gilderoy painting a picture of himself.
I haven't done the back yet. For now it's just purple but I'm going to print a thing and stick it on (hooray for spray adhesive!) that starts out sounding like a normal author bio and by the end it's like "When Gilderoy Lockhart goes in the water, he doesn't get wet. The water gets Gilderoy. Gilderoy Lockhart's tears cure cancer, but unfortunately he never cries." Et cetera.
