gmonkey42We had our class cruise today, and you know what that means...
Sea critter photos!
Risso's dolphins. I like their name: Grampus griseus. Because they're gray like grandpa. We also saw Pacific white-sided dolphins but they were too far away to show up on my camera. They were jumping out of the water!
Humpback whales! They didn't come up to the boat like last year (see icon) but they hung out pretty close.
Thar she blows!
Tail! I also got to see the underside of the tail - with the unique, fingerprint-like white markings - but I didn't manage to get a photo of that.

Mola! If you've ever been to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and been lucky enough to go at a time when they have sunfish in the Outer Bay tank, this is one of those. They're so cute and funny-looking!
They have one big fin on top and one on the bottom, which they use to move around, and two little flappy fins on the sides for steering. That's a side view. See what I mean about funny-looking?
This one was hanging around letting seagulls pick bugs off its skin, then it came over to check out the boat. OHAI!
