This is long so I'm going to use the cut tag.

hurting my foot:
I hurt my foot in Tae Kwon Do. I think I may have a minor fracture in my toe; I've had one before. It's embarrassing: I was sparring with this guy who has a black belt in another style, and he tends to give people unsolicited advice and generally think he's pretty great. Anyway, I got sloppy with a kick and jammed my toe on his arm. Dang it. I was wearing foot pads. So I taped up my toe.
I think I'm more prone to injury than most people. I don't get why. My shoulder still hurts a little from when I fell on my arm snowboarding about three weeks ago. And I did TKD before - got a brown belt, actually - but I had to quit because my knees were getting messed up.
Sexism in Western Literature:
So I was lying with my foot up, reading Welcome to the Monkey House, which I just bought yesterday on my latest Borders binge, and the story with the same title was really pissing me off. I actually hauled myself out of bed, injured foot and all, to type this up. Quoting from the story: "You certainly know how to make a woman feel like an object rather than a person." That's funny; so does the author. He basically admitted in the Prologue that he was just whoring himself out writing these short stories to pay the bills between novels. That's no excuse. I liked some of his novels. Now I feel betrayed. That's an all-too-common experience for a woman, finding out how sexist Western literature really is. Now I'll have to find something else to read to take my mind off my $@%! foot. At least I didn't let on during class that it was injured (that's not as foolhardy as it sounds - sparring was the last thing we did today). Yargh. I never finished Left Hand of Darkness. Maybe I'll read that. At least I'm fairly sure that's an author I can trust...
It makes me question my own work. I wonder if I'm putting forth a sexist message by making fun of Mary Sues (which is the subject of the comic I'm working on). Not to sound like a hypersensitive political correctness fanatic. Though, in and of itself, there's nothing wrong with political correctness. It's really just about creating an atmosphere of respect. Far too many people confuse honesty with tactlessness. It's weird that the majority of fanfic authors are women, even in fandoms that most people assume only appeal to males. Makes me wonder how accurate those assumptions are.
That's all for tonight, though I'm sure you'll be hearing more about this in the near future.
