more on Heroes 4x04
Oct. 13th, 2009 02:02 pmOK, now that I've seen it a second time (how did I ever live without DVR?)
And here's this again because you can never have too much of Sylar-Cartman comparisons.

- Emma playing instruments: I don't buy it. She doesn't know what color it's going to be until after she hits the key/string. Her being able to play with no prior training because she can see the sounds makes exactly as much sense as someone being able to play because they can hear the sounds. Knowing what you want it to sound like and having the skill to make the instrument produce those sounds are two very, very different things.
- Along the same lines, WTF why does she own a cello? Did she just buy one? They cost hundreds of dollars!
- I called it re. Sylar retaining his own ability plus telekinesis and electricity-bending. It's possible he'll wind up still having all his abilities - he certainly will when he gets his mind back into his body anyway - but I think it's no coincidence that those are the only abilities he exhibited in this episode.
- I liked how he had the gun but he never pointed it at anyone. Like it was just for having, not for using. I usually hate plot devices where some external force causes people to do things that are against their true nature (*cough* pon farr rape fic *cough*) but I don't mind that it's becoming apparent Sylar's not inherently a bad person, it's his ability that's the problem. Not so much The Hunger but the fact that having the power makes him believe he's superior to everyone else and therefore has the right to decide whether they live or die. And that attitude is something he can change, as we've seen in I Am Become Death, although it's difficult for him.
