I'm heeeeere! My feet are tired and I'm being lazy and sitting in the apartment right now. I did venture out to get coffee and a croissant. I think I annoyed East-Village-Independent-Coffee-Shop Guy; first I asked for half-caff, then I tried to pay with a credit card. All coffee shops are Starbucks, aren't they? But then I put a dollar in the tip jar!

I'm going to post this later. after I get my photos uploaded. I'll just type it for now. [ETA: ehh, I'll post this one now and then put up the post about Part 2 & the photos later tonight after I get home]

I arrived Tuesday night and yesterday I went to the American Museum of Natural History. I love it. I only got through the first floor, I'll probably go again today to see the rest. I have to see the dinosaurs! It's amazing how many people just wander through and don't read any of the information; that's why it took me so long, I was reading a lot of the signs. Now I know what quasars are! (Quasars are big. And weird. They shoot out radio waves.) And I saw the planetarium show. I think I'll go back later today then go straight from the museum to the theater, which is about halfway between the museum and the apartment. Oh yeah, the theater. To see ANGELS IN AMERICA YAAAY! We saw Part 1 last night. It was amazing. I can't even express it. I tried to, I said to Zach (oh yeah I MET ZACHARY QUINTO AGAIN) that I'd read it but never seen it performed and that I was just blown away and it was amazing. He said thank you :)

All you've heard about how awesome the set design is? Does not even do it justice. The snow! And the shadows of branches! And how the actors help move the set around! The angel's wings move! It was all breathtaking. I've only seen a handful of plays but FWIW this is far and away the best play I've ever seen.

Zach and Christian and the entire cast really are perfect. Zoe Kazan seems so young. It's appropriate that the character be childlike but it still struck me like "wow, she seems so young!" I just checked, she's almost my age. Not 18, Nada ;)

I don't know what kind of awards they'd be eligible for, it being off-Broadway and therefore sadly ineligible for Tonys, but Christian and Zach both deserve awards. I don't think I'll ever be able to see anyone else as Prior or Louis. I've heard actors in earlier productions made Louis unsympathetic and I think Zach's interpretation is so much better: the play already has its villain in Roy. Louis isn't just a selfish asshole, I mean he is that but there's more to him than that, he's weak and guilt-ridden and vulnerable and Zach really brings that out. And you can understand what Prior & Joe see in him, which is important.

We can't wait to see Part 2!

Haha, I almost forgot: Minnie Driver was in the audience. Minnie Driver! She was about 3 rows in front of us. And apparently she and Zach know each other! When we were all standing around in the lobby waiting to get photos and autographs, Zach appeared and walked around the less-crowded front part first to say hi to Minnie and her friends. And then he patiently signed autographs and took photos with about a dozen people. And he was so friendly and nice as usual and he thanked each of us for coming. I think someone asked him when Star Trek starts filming; I barely heard the question but his answer was "I'm not sure, some time in summer I think." In other fan news, when the audience was coming in to find their seats, we overheard one guy say to the usher "can I sit in Zach's lap?" You'll have to get in line, dude.

I also got Billy Porter's autograph - he was Belize, who's Prior's friend and Roy's nurse. And he was amazing too. Oh god, the scene in the coffee shop! It's funny just reading it but Zach & Billy made it so much better than that even. I didn't have my own silver Sharpie, I forgot to bring one, and I didn't want to run over to Zach's crowd and ask for a pen then run back to Billy but then someone else with a Sharpie asked Billy for an autograph so I got one too :D

I was hoping to get Christian's autograph too but he didn't come through the lobby. I just looked him up on IMDB: he's from Pittsburgh and went to Carnegie Mellon too! But he and Zach weren't at CMU at the same time.

Finished my coffee now. I think I'll just veg for while, read my book, then venture out into the snowy landscape again. It's really pretty. But I don't have good snow boots. I have not-remotely-waterproof sneakers, and boots that are OK but not comfortable enough to be on my feet in all day. And seeing the museum involves a lot of walking. My feet got wet yesterday morning but it should be better today; with going out later, the sidewalks will be less snowy. Next time I come to NYC, I'm just going to wear my hiking shoes and the hell with anything matching.

ETA: Here's the second post, with pictures.
