No, just kidding, I haven't seen it yet. I was in bed last night at about 11:20 thinking "I could still see it at midnight. When I checked this afternoon, there were still tickets. I'll bet I could see it if I get up right now." But I didn't. Because I'm going to see it tonight and I didn't want to have to drive home from Sac at 2:00AM and be all tired all day and be completely dead when I go to see it tonight with my friends.

Today, we're going to take a trip to see the new lab we're moving to in August. It's in Richmond. Which will be cool because there seems to be more of a fandom scene in the Bay Area than here (for those who don't know, Richmond is just north of San Francisco). (For those of you who do know, don't worry - it's in the nicer part of Richmond, near Berkeley). I'm going to continue living up here and commute via Amtrak. Because I couldn't afford a decent place in the Bay Area and I'd probably wind up living with my parents, which would totally suck ass.

When I told my mum I'd take Amtrak, instead of my previous plan, which was to live with them and take BART, she said she was so relieved that I wasn't going to take BART. And all along, my family's been throwing a fit about me working in Richmond. Geeze. I'm not a kid. People ride BART all the time and the majority of them don't get murdered. I've taken self-defense classes. I'm a martial artist. I'm alert. I'm fit. I'm not a likely candidate for mugging. But no, all my family sees is that I'm female and therefore I can't take care of myself. Pfft.

Aw, man. Yesterday, I tried to run my gel and nothing showed up. I assumed I'd just run it too far and the DNA went off the end. So I tried it again today. Still nothing. I came to J___ for help. He pointed out that the ethidium bromide hadn't moved either (it runs in the opposite direction to the DNA), which I hadn't noticed, though the power source definitely said there was current. He said to change the buffer and try it again to see if that would fix it. We put the gel into the tray with fresh buffer and went to plug it in... and the power source was plugged into a different tray from the one I'd been using. So there was current, but it was going through the other tray. So we had a good laugh. And I feel dumb. But that sort of thing happens to everyone sometimes so I don't feel too bad.

I didn't see this on the news, because the proponents of DRAFTING EVERY AMERICAN AGED 18-26 are trying to get HR 163 and S 89 passed while everyone's distracted by the upcoming election. So tell as many people as you can about this and tell the people representing us in the House and Senate that we won't stand for it.

If this goes through, it'll be a lot harder to dodge the draft by getting into Canada and they aren't making allowances for students to finish their education. You can tell that to apathetic friends who say "I'll just go to Canada." That's what my brother said. I don't want to see him drafted and I don't want to get drafted myself. And I don't want any of you to get drafted either. We can fight this.

Pass it on.
